On October 27, Alexander Kordyuk, the director of KAU, took part at the Plenary meeting of the League of European Accelerator-based Photon Sources (LEAPS) with a plenary talk "LEAPS in the Present Geopolitical Situation: Need for a Synchrotron in Ukraine"
The idea to build an Eastern European Synchrotron Light Source in Ukraine has been suggested by Leonid Rivkin, the LEAPS Chair, and discussed. Marek Stankiewicz, the director of a Polish Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS, has agreed to coordinate this project from LEAPS and also suggested installing at SOLARIS a Polish-Ukrainian beamline to be later relocated to a new light source in Ukraine.
We are grateful to our Polish colleagues for this initiative and look forward to fruitful collaboration. First joint event, Light for Ukraine - synchrotron workshop at SOLARIS, has been scheduled on 23-24th of February.
